Mother/Son Dance

Picking songs for your wedding is a daunting task. Procession, Recession, First Dance, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son...it is a lot to figure out! TD and I decided that instead of picking the songs for our mother/son and father/daughter dances, we asked our mom and dad to pick the songs that they would like to dance with us to at our wedding. We asked that they picked something that meant something to them and that under no circumstances could they tell us what they were. We really wanted to be surprised...well we were and then some.

TD's mom picked "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynrd as their first dance. This song has a TON of meaning to TD, for a variety of reasons. When the song came on, I watched as TD realized what was playing and his eyes filled with tears. It was one of the moments in our wedding that might have gone unnoticed by some, but will forever remain in my heart. Here are the lyrics to "Simple Man":

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.
Take your time... Don't live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and you'll find love,
And don't forget son,
There is someone up above.

And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Won't you do this for me son,
If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

Boy, don't you worry... you'll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.
