I began this series with the idea of placing my camera in a empty drawer and either leaving it on a long exposure or using a flash. Part of the idea is giving up control because I had to place the camera pointing at what I wanted it to photograph (I could not see through the viewfinder), set a timer, close the drawer, and hope that it worked. The first and last photographs here, I think, beautifully capture light gradients and line form.
The two middle pictures though required an even greater abandonment of control due to a setting in which it was harder to predict what settings would be necessary. Nonetheless, I think they are quite successful images and having just wrapped up studying Georgia O'Keeffe, I see a similarity between these photos and her paintings Corn, Dark 1 and Blue and Green Music.
