Digital Camera Nikon D7000

Nikon D7000 Overview

Nikon is a force to be reckoned within the mid-level and professional DSLR market, and the Nikon D7000 is an abominable beast that sends its competition running for the hills. After shooting side-by-side with the Canon EOS 60D at length, it became clear that the Nikon D7000 was in a league of its own. The D7000 is packed with shooting features, many of which improve upon the D90's, and rival the D300s's. It's got 1080p Full HD at 24fps, a dual SD card slot, revamped TTL exposure metering sensor, 39-point AF system, and magnesium alloy body. With a 16-megapixel DX format sensor, the Nikon D7000 was nothing short of excellent when it came to image quality. The Nikon D7000 replaces the D90, and serves as an upgrade to one of our favorite beginner cameras, the Nikon D5000. For the photographer looking to bust onto the scene with their first serious DSLR, the Nikon D7000 is one of the premiere choices on within the mid-level class.

JEFF BRIDGES: The Widelux Camera

"The Wide-Lux is a fickle mistress; its viewfinder isn't accurate, and there's no manual focus, so it has an arbitrariness to it, a capricious quality. I like that. It's something I aspire to in all my work --- a lack of preciousness that makes things more human and honest, a willingness to receive what's there in the moment, and to let go of the result. Getting out of the way seems to be one of the main tasks for me as an artist." – Jeff Bridges, Intro to PICTURES

JEFF BRIDGES has one of the most creative and enjoyable WEBSITES to explore. Among his drawings, music, and film news, there are a couple of (not to missed) Photo Galleries of his behind-the-scenes photographs of Making Iron Man, The Amateurs, and Crazy Heart, taken with a Widelux camera given to him by his wife, photographer Susan Geston. Also posted on his site are useful tips on using the Widelux.

PICTURES is Jeff Bridges book of photographs taken over twenty years, on dozens of movie sets, published by powerHouse Books/Herter Studio. With a foreword by Peter Bogdanovich, the book includes handwritten captions and personal commentary throughout. The proceeds from the sale of the book go to the Motion Picture & Television Fund, a non-profit organization that offers charitable care and support to film-industry workers.

I’m delighted that Sigma included me in their exhibition for PhotoPlus Expo 2009. I was asked along with Chip Forelli, Paula Lerner, and Stephen Mallon to make pictures with a Sigma DP2 for a few weeks - the only request being "make something awe-inspiring"... no pressure in that, right? I have photographed with the same camera for almost 10 years, a Hasselblad 501CM and though I almost always work in black in white, I like to play with color.

Saul Leiter and Jeff Brouws just kill me with inspiration.

After reading about the philosophy behind the DP2 I thought this would be a meaningful challenge and was honestly not disappointed. I believe the camera has a beautiful response to light and liked the rendering and palette so much I decided to make color images for the show - a loose triptych that echoes a celestial feel. I’m looking forward to sharing the photographs, they were a joy to make. I hope you find them playful and unexpected.

We believe that photography is an effective tool in igniting children's imagination and building self-esteem. We believe in the power of art to transform lives, for both the artist and the viewer.

BORN INTO BROTHELS, a film by Photographer Zana Briski and Co-Director Ross Kauffman, won the 77th annual Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. A tribute to the resiliency of childhood and the restorative power of art, Born into Brothels is a portrait of several unforgettable children who lived in the red light district of Calcutta, where their mothers worked as prostitutes.

Zana Briski,
a New York-based photographer, founded Kids With Cameras in 2002, teaching photography to children in Calcutta's red-light district. She gave each of the children a camera and taught them the basics of photography and camera mechanics. Kids With Cameras has since expanded workshops to include Haiti, Jerusalem and Cairo.

The photographs taken by the children are available for purchase in the Kids' Gallery, and also as a signed Limited-Edition Portfolio. 100% of proceeds from sales of the children's prints and book, go directly to support their education and well-being. Archival prints on Somerset paper: 17 x 22 inches, $175 - 36 x 48 inches, $500.

There are also updates on the children on the Kids With Cameras website. One of those children, Avijit, was 11 when he began photographing in the brothels district he lived. "An innately talented artist, he's won many competitions for his paintings. Charismatic and restlessly creative, his images were among the most compelling of the workshop. Avijit was invited by the World Press Photo Foundation in Amsterdam to be part of their Children's Jury in 2002. In 2005, he received a four year high school scholarship to attend an incredible school in America." Avijit has now been accepted to the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. To help fund his education expenses, he's selected nine of his photographs taken and combined them into a collection of nine 4 x 6 postcards. You can help Avijit realize his educational goals by purchasing this Postcard Collection. $30. plus shipping and handling.
