Georgia O'Keeffe's artwork had a long running relationship with photography. Since she was married to Alfred Stieglitz one of the early proponents of photography being considered a legitimate and fine art form, she was constantly around photographers. While there are many subtle dialogs between her photos and other photographers of the time such as Edward Weston and Paul Strand, photography very clearly influenced how she perceived what she saw as shown by the sun spots in her work Shelton with Sunspots.
Many of O'Keeffe's early works were charcoal. However, one of her earlier watercolors Blue Lines X exclusively uses blue and is an abstract study of line. Indeed throughout her life blue was often a strong color within O'Keefe's work and the prevalence of blue in one of her last images Sky Above Clouds IV provides a nice and circular closing to her body of work. Both the focus on blue and a particular attention to line and shape are elements in the following images and one I am pleased to say was inspired by O'Keeffe.
