He was overwhelmingly aware of the youth and mystery that wealth imprisons and preserves, of the freshness of many clothes.
It was a conscious (if limited by circumstance) choice to shoot in a room completely bare. While it may distract or be inaccurate with the level of grandeur that the scene would traditionally be portrayed with, I think it develops the contrast of the extravagance and ultimately focuses the attention on the glamor of the items in the image.
